The annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup, in partnership with the Alice Ferguson Foundation (http://potomaccleanup.org/trash_initiative/trash_cleanup.shtml) is a great chance for volunteers to get their hands dirty making a difference in their community. Volunteers will be removing litter from areas all along the Potomac on Saturday the 14th.
“Litter is a threat to public health and our regional economy. It harms wildlife, decreases property values, hurts business, and is a financial burden for local governments,” said Lori Arguelles, Executive Director of the Alice Ferguson Foundation. “Through our Trash Initiative events such as the Cleanup and Litter Enforcement Month, we seek to create greater awareness of the of the litter issue, which will lead to behavior change throughout the region.”
Volunteers should wear clothing they don't mind getty dirty and bring water along as well. If you have your own work gloves or trash pickers, we ask that you please bring those to the event. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Volunteers can expect moderate-to-difficult work that requires lifting bags, bending over and walking on rocky/slippery terrain. Come join us, have fun, and make a difference! |

Reduce the threat of non-native invasive plants, protect rare species and restore the biological and cultural integrity to Park Service lands. Invasive plant removal requires walking on uneven and rocky terrain, and using hand tools (hand-saws, bow-saws, loppers, or hand-clippers) to cut invasive plants. Additional physical demands include the use of shovels and trowels while planting native plants, hauling excess debris, and standing for prolonged periods. Please wear working clothing (long sleeve and boots, etc.), we will provide tools and gloves but feel free to bring your own. Date - every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month Time - 9:30am till 11:45pm.
