Opportunity Description: 

Campground hosts are needed for the Newhalem Creek Campground and Colonial Creek Campground in Ross Lake National Recreation Area of the North Cascades National Park Service Complex for the 2013 summer season. Water, electric, and sewer hookups are provided. The hosts are asked to work five 8-hour days a week assisting Campground Rangers with rounds to assure compliance with fees and regulations, keeping campground statistics and providing assistance to campers and visitors to enhance their stay in the North Cascades. Benefits to the volunteer: National Park Service volunteers gain personal enrichment and professional experience working and living in a national park. Volunteers receive interpretive training, as well as training and education about the North Cascades and related park resources. Volunteers enjoy the satisfaction and experience of communicating with and helping national park visitors appreciate and protect their park resources. Volunteers should have an outgoing personality, the ability to meet and greet the public with a friendly and helpful demeanor and a willingness to live and work in a location that offers solitude and spectacular views. Applicant should have initiative and willingness to learn. The volunteers should possess an ability to make sound common sense decisions and come with a profound appreciation for nature and the outdoors. Housing for this position will be in one of the campground's RV spaces, which includes water, sewer and electrical hookups. An RV will be required and a separate vehicle is also recommended.
