Opportunity Description:

Volunteers needed on the Osceola National Forest to man the Olustee Depot, a visitor center off of US Highway 90 in Olustee Florida. The Depot history dates back to the 1860s, where it played a significant role in serving as both a passenger and freight station during the Civil War and afterwards served as a hub for mail, supplies and people in the development of north Florida. Osceola is home to one of the largest reenactments in Florida the Olustee Battle which draws 20,000 visitors each year.

Volunteers will greet Forest Service visitors, provide information and sell books, collectibles and other Eastern National materials. Volunteers will maintain all aspects of the building (cleaning inside and outside the building, restrooms, mowing, maintaining the flower boxes) and also selling eastern national products. The Osceola NF is located about 45 minutes from Jacksonville, a major city, 40 minutes from Gainesville and the University of Florida and 20 minutes from Lake City, Florida with full amenities. The Osceola is close to the Atlantic Beaches, the Nature Coast which includes the many springs, caves and rivers that make up the area.
