Opportunity Description: We’re looking for volunteers to Greet visitors and provide helpful and accurate information and materials. Audience may be incidental visitors and scheduled groups. Our volunteer will help visitors learn about the Refuge resources, the general wildlife present and other wildlife viewing opportunities. The volunteer will speak with visitor groups at the entry kiosk and on the trails, explaining the purpose of the refuge, answering questions, and identifying wildlife. The applicant must be able to demonstrate basic public speaking and interpretation skills for small groups. A background or interest in conservation, natural history, ecology, biology or birding is helpful. Volunteer will also record requests to book tours and may assist with educational programs and volunteer events. However, the volunteer will usually provide interpretation or interpretive programs in the absence of the Visitor Services Specialist. May also perform a variety of other duties. Time commitment is 3 - 5 hours at the refuge per month. Work occurs primarily on Friday, Saturday and / or Sunday. Monthly scheduling is flexible. Orientation provided and some interpretive skill training is available. It is expected that a local resident will fill this position. We can not provide lodging.
