Opportunity Description: Volunteers are needed for the following locations:Katherine Landing, Cottonwood Cove, Boulder Basin and Echo Bay. The goal of the Water Safety Volunteer is to provide assistance on Launch Ramp, serve as a Deck Hand and Boat Operator. Volunteer will provide boating and water safety information, assist visitors with water safety issues, promote preventive accident and drowning message and provide park information to the public. The volunteer, with appropriate training and certification, may operate a National Park Service (government owned) vessel and/or vehicle at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Attend and complete 6 hours Deck Hand training and 40 hours Motor Boat Operator Certification Course (MOCC), comprehensive training and guidance on watercraft regulations, “rule of the road”, recognition of unsafe water operations, activities and recognition of operating a vessel under the influence, Safe emergency operation of vessels during adverse weather conditions. Volunteers may be trained in Search and Rescue, First Aid, CPR and Automatic Electrical Deliberator training. Volunteers will be required to wear a NPS Volunteer uniform. Volunteers will not perform any law enforcement duties. Looking for locals to assist. No housing or RV Site available.
