Opportunity Description: 
POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Condor Monitoring Assistants help wildlife biologists with Condor monitoring. Duties include hiking off-trail and in rugged terrain to various monitoring sites to observe, collect and report data on condor locations and behaviors. Volunteers will use binoculars, spotting scope and telemetry to observe condors.

FIELD DUTIES will include tracking condors using radio telemetry; taking detailed field notes; assisting with condor feeding through carcass placements and more.

LOCATION DESCRIPTION:

Pinnacles National Monument is centrally located within California’s natural wonders. Hours from the San Francisco Bay Area, Monterey Bay and the Pacific Ocean, Yosemite National park and more. Rising out of the chaparral-covered Gabilan Mountains, east of central California's Salinas Valley, are the spectacular remains of an ancient volcano. Massive monoliths, spires, sheer-walled canyons and talus passages define millions of years of erosion, faulting and tectonic plate movement. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED/ REQUIREMENTS

·Friendly, courteous, reliable.

·Ability to work independently.

·For fieldwork: Desire and ability to work outdoors, at times in inclement weather and terrain as well as sometimes exert strenuous physical activity while walking.

·Ability to work independently in the field once trained.

You will be required to wear an official National Park Service Volunteer uniform that will be provided to you.

SCHEDULED HOURS/TIME COMMITMENT:

Minimum commitment to a minimum of 1 survey day per month on Saturday or Sundays. Some flexibility possible, however reliability is necessary

Required to attend 1 day training on November 7th! BENEFITS
