Opportunity Description: 
Katherine Landing Information Center - 32 Hours per week

Goal: The goal of information center volunteer is to provide visitors with information so they can enjoy Lake Mead National Recreation Area and its recreation opportunities in a safe and knowledgeable manner.

Description of Duties: The primary duty of the information center volunteer is to provide accurate information to park visitors about Lake Mead NRA recreational activities in and around the area. Distribute written information to walk-in visitors, provide verbal and phone information to phone inquires, as well as answering mail requests. Physical activities may include lifting boxes or bags up to 25 pounds weight, as well as standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time. Maintain the information center in a clean condition.

Volunteer will open and close information center. Stock brochure racks and handouts. Operate a cash register for the Park Association. Collect and record visitor use statistics, weather data, and volunteer hour statistics. Prepare and produce morning radio spot. Volunteer will transfer and record phone and radio messages for park employees.

Volunteer may drive a vehicle to headquarters and other assigned locations making deliveries and pick-ups as long as he/she has a clean driving record.

Training and Benefits: As a National Park Service Volunteer, you will be asked to participate in an initial orientation period prior to beginning your duties, as well as other training opportunities as they occur. This will include becoming familiar with the layout of the building and surrounding gardens and trails, learning about the mission of the National Park Service and Lake Mead National Recreation Area, the operation of the information desk, as well as completing sales transactions and the use of a cash register. Some voluntary reading and research will be necessary in order to become knowledgeable in the many aspects of visitor services at Lake Mead. A training manual will be provided to you. Our volunteers enjoy meeting people from all parts of the world and find a great satisfaction in providing helpful, friendly information that makes a visitor’s experience enjoyable.

Qualifications: Good communication and interpersonal skills, willingness to learn, ability to answer phones in a professional manner, comfortable in operating a cash register, a willingness to work independently within prescribed parameters, and an appreciation of the concept of teamwork.

Age and Uniform Requirements: Volunteer must be atleast 18 years old. Volunteer is required to wear an official National Park Service Volunteer uniform shirt with name tag, which will be provided.
