Opportunity Description: Wildlife/Fish Management: Volunteers would be exposed to a variety of activities depending on skills and work time frames. These activities including the monitoring of northern goshawks, Townsend's big-eared bats, neo-tropical birds, and flammulated owls; conducting snowshoe hare pellet counts; construction of riparian log-fences; and utilizing GPS equipment to collect wildlife data. Ability to identify birds is recommended, along with a background or strong interest in wildlife management. Housing and subsistence may be available dependent on funding.

Opportunity Description: Recreation Aid: Mill Creek Canyon is within a 30 minute drive for more than half a million people who use the canyon for hiking, biking, picnicking, and fishing. Volunteers can work weekends or weekdays doing site maintenance and trail work. Experience using basic hand tools and having carpentry skills is needed. Some work can be strenuous at times so the volunteers need to be in good physical shape. Forest Service may provide housing and work transportation.

Opportunity Description: Winter Sports Assistant: Assist the Mill Creek Canyon winter staff in cross-country ski grooming and visitor compliance on the Mill Creek Ski trail. In addition: Trailhead cleaning, trash pick-up, and cross-country skiing, will be the duties of the volunteer. Volunteer will be exposed to winter weather while performing the duties listed above. Experience with snowmobiles, snowcats, and cross-country skiing and visitor compliance are necessary. Uniform and training will be provided. Housing and work transportation may be provided. Must be able to work weekends.

Opportunity Description: Group Opportunities: Open - i.e., stream rehabilitation, range improvements, trail maintenance, recreation maintenance, and area cleanup. Programs such as Adopt-A-Trail, -Stream, -Fence, and -Campground are also available. Projects vary with interest of group and time available to work. Forest Service will provide tools and equipment to complete project.

Opportunity Description: Campground Host: Cascade Springs is located 7.5 miles from the Alpine Scenic Loop. This beautiful site consists of springs cascading down the mountain slope in a series of limestone terraces and pools. The nearest town is Midway, Utah, 7 miles from Heber City. Volunteer duties would include assisting visitors with information, provide a presence to prevent vandalism, and help Forest Service personnel maintain facilities. Volunteer must have his or her own vehicle and trailer. Large 30-foot fifth wheel trailer is not recommended due to steep road into the site. Host unit has a concrete pad, table, and beautiful view of the springs. Water and sewer holding tank are available. No electricity or telephone is available, but cell phone or Forest Service radio can be obtained.
Negotiations for volunteer compensation may include propane, mileage, and daily subsistence.

Opportunity Description: Visitor Center Attendant: Volunteers assist with staffing the Forest information center at Fish Lake. Volunteers provide information on fishing, camping, hiking, mountain biking, scenic drives, etc. In addition, volunteers sell Interpretive Association materials and help monitor public programs held on weekends. Good communication skills are essential. Knowledge about the area is helpful, but not required. Camp site for trailer/RV with hookups to water, power, and sewer or lodging provided at Forest Service Administrative Site - CCC cabin equipped with electrical heat, stove, fridge, water, sewer, laundry facilities, and phone access.

Opportunity Description: VISITOR CENTER ASSISTANT
WORK TO INCLUDE: Being actively and enthusiastically involved in our frequent interpretive programs at the Strawberry Bay Amphitheater using many individuals and agencies for a myriad of subject matter for entertainment and education of our Forest visitors. Light custodial duties including, but not limited to, the following: vacuuming, removing and replacing trash liners, washing windows, re-stocking of supplies and physical cleaning maintenance of public restrooms, replacing light bulbs, dusting, etc. etc. Inventory and ordering of bookstore materials. This work is mainly cash register use and completion of deposit forms directly related to the sales of bookstore items at the Visitor's Center weekly. Boardwalk maintenance: The Visitor's Center interpretive program utilizes a boardwalk system which comprises of about 1500 of boardwalk trail in riparian zones immediately adjacent to the V.C. The boardwalk system will need from time-to-time, incidental clean-up, repairs, and maintenance. One such duty may include treating the boardwalk with linseed, for example. Landscaping: The arena of landscaping in Strawberry is fairly mundane, because of the altitude and temperature, the grass needs to be mowed only about twice a month with a ride-on-mower and use of a weed trimmer around concrete edges such as sidewalks and curbs.
