Tram and bus operators are needed at Laguna Atacosa National Wildlife Refuge!
The refuge is looking for volunteers who would enjoy working as tour drivers. We have a 44 passenger open-air tram which requires a CDL license with passenger endorsement. We also have a 14 passenger mini-bus with wheelchair lift (experience operating high profile vehicles is required). Tour vehicle operators prepare vehicles for tours, help load and unload passengers, operate the wheel-chair lift , clean and maintain vehicles, provide friendly customer service, and assist with general visitor services duties. Our primary need is January through March, but fall, spring and summer opportunities are available also.
Laguna Atascosa NWR is located on the Laguna Madre on the most southern tip of Texas. The 90,000 acre refuge is known for its 400+ species of birds, as well as its importance to ocelots, a highly endangered small cat that is only found in South Texas. For 24 hours per week per couple (or 32 hours for single vols), the refuge provides full utilities, hook-up, washer/dryer and a comfortable community room. Comfortable winter temperatures, reasonable cost of living and a beautiful setting make for a wonderful volunteer experience at Laguna Atascosa NWR! Applications are accepted year round.
