Looking for Visitor Service volunteers! Duties will include: Visitor Center
Greet and provide information to the general public.
Collect entrance fees
Book and provide information (where applicable) for the refuge’s interpretive activities.
Sell items for the Friends of LANWR Nature Store, stock and organize merchandise, and run cash register.
Operate visitor center, including: open/close center; stocking bird feeders; organizing supplies and storage areas; answering phones; maintaining/cleaning interior and exterior public areas to include restroom facilities.
Support staff, Friends and volunteer programs as needed.
Also looking for interpretive guides that will also work in the Visitor Center! Duties will include Visitor Center duties a well as the following:
Prepare and lead interpretive tours for a wide variety of audiences (bird tours, nature walks or tram tours).
Maintain any necessary equipment such as tour van, spotting scopes or spotlights.
Provide information to the general public.
Collect tour fee (where applicable).
Assist with environmental education program (visiting school/youth groups).
Assist with outreach opportunities such as festivals, events, career fairs, talks at RV parks etc.
Develop routes and ideas for various tours or walks.
Must enjoy and be able to interact with people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds. Volunteers who are flexible and have positive attitudes typically have excellent experiences working in the visitor services program. Training is provided to teach volunteers refuge rules and regulations and how to present interpretive and educational programs to our visitors.
Degree of difficulty: Average with minimal physical demand. During peak season (December-March), it may require standing longer periods of time.
In order to receive free RV pad space and hookups, we ask volunteer couple to work 3 days a week each and volunteer single to work 4 days a week.
