Assist Heavy Equipment Engineer with regular General Maintenance duties. General property maintenance to include custodial upkeep of refuge buildings, restrooms, and grounds. Trail and grounds maintenance; trimming trees and bushes, mowing grass, planting native vegetation, and maintenance of associated sprinkler system. Construction/maintenance of various fences. Repair/replacement/installation of directional, informational and interpretive signs. Refugium maintenance. If qualified, perform preventative maintenance checks on automotive and heavy equipment, parts and wiring inspection and replacement, complete routine maintenance. Tasks may also involve metal work, cutting and welding. Special projects, as assigned, including but not limited to stream restoration, re-vegetation projects, maintain/clean irrigation ditches and building up road base. May perform a variety of other duties. CDL is desirable, but not required.

Staff the new Refuge visitor center. Meet and cheerfully greet visitors from around the world, as well as operate the visitor center book store. As a public point of contact, concisely explain to visitors the Refuge purpose, regulations, basic wildlife viewing advice, and driving directions. Direct to appropriate refuge staff reports from visitors of problems, violations, or issues. Possess basic math skills for handling transactions involving money. Assist at store with product information, operate and account for cash register. Complete sales transactions. Stock shelves and order depleted merchandise. Help visitors find items and bag items sold. Sell memberships and accept monetary donations for The Friends of the Desert Wildlife Refuges. Answer phone calls and provide basic information. Maintain visitor center in a clean and tidy condition; clean, sweep, vacuum, dust, wash windows, wipe counters, empty trash cans, mop, clean restrooms and other tasks as assigned.
Refuge Headquarters, visitor center and RV pads are located at Corn Creek Station. Corn Creek Station is off US95 at the end of about a 4 mile gravel road.
