The Wapiti Ranger District of the Shoshone National Forest is currently seeking to fill a seasonal volunteer position at Three Mile Campground. Applicants should enjoy working with people, and possess oral and interpersonal communication skills. General knowledge of basic hand tools, and lawn & garden equipment, along with the ability to routinely lift up 35 lbs, and walk up to 2 miles with frequent breaks, is desirable.
The volunteer will be responsible for the following duties: providing information to the public about camping and recreating in grizzly bear country, general forest rules and regulations; minor facilities maintenance and repair; recording visitor use data; and ensuring that campground restrooms and facilities are kept clean and stocked with toilet paper.
Volunteer host dates are from approximately May 26, 2014 to September 1, 2014. The volunteer host work week consists of 5 days per week, with a subsistence reimbursement of $20.00 per day/per couple. The volunteer host is expected to be available to assist campers for the majority of the day from 8 am to 6 pm for the scheduled volunteer days. In the event of a special circumstance, the supervisor may ask the volunteer host to be available more than the five days scheduled each week. The volunteer will be compensated $20.00 subsistence reimbursement for those specific days. A volunteer schedule will be determined through mutual agreement between host and supervisor. Orientation and training will take place at a time and date to be determined.
The Host site at Three Mile Campground is provided an RV pad, dumpstation, and a 225 gal. tank of potable water. The Host is also provided with up to 60 lbs. of propane per week and 5 gal. of gasoline per week for generator use. Laundry, showering and limited freezer space is available to the volunteer at the Wapiti Ranger station. All hosts must provide their own RV.
