Loon Lake Recreation Site is nestled in an old Douglas-fir forest. The lake is about two miles long and a half a mile wide, with a sandy beach and swimming area. Loon Lake Recreation Area is a busy campground and day use area. Typical visitation during the 4 month season is approximately 50,000 people. The lake has a beach, boating area, interpretive amphitheater, 5 restrooms, and 59 campsites. The site is located approximately 20 miles from the Oregon coast and the nearest town of Reedsport, Oregon. This is a full service town with supermarkets, restaurants, healthcare providers etc.
Maintenance • Pick-up litter along roadways, parking areas, day use area, campground. • Clean and replace empty toilet paper rolls in 5 restrooms • Clean out day use fire grills and campgrounds grills (when sites are open or need to be cleaned). • Assist with cleaning interpretive panels, benches and other amenities. Management Support / Site Presence • Inform BLM staff and law enforcement of violations, emergency needs, and other circumstances that require attention. Work with people on the BLM staff. • The volunteer is not responsible for enforcement. • Assist with firewood sales from host site. No cash handling will be necessary. • Provide information to the public. • Assist and participate in the Loon Lake interpretive program.
Additional Requirements for volunteer • Pets must be kept on a leash or otherwise physically restricted. You are responsible for cleaning up after your pet and its behavior. No more than 2 dogs are permitted. • Attend volunteer training as requested by the Volunteer Supervisor such as Basic First Aid/CPR, defensive driving and Safety. • Must have own vehicle for personal use. • The ability to walk on a daily basis and perform duties in all kinds of weather. • Reside in camp host site#19. • Host will be given a minimum of $340 per month and RV electric, water, sewer hookups at no charge. • If needed to use your personal vehicle for official duties (not mandatory) a rate of .14 per mile will be given. • 2 weekdays will be assigned as days off (Monday and Tuesday or Wednesday and Thursday are available day off options).
