Aransas National Wildlife Refuge is seeking energetic volunteers to staff the Visitor Center and provide excellent customer service to our visitors. Duties include greeting visitors, providing Refuge and local information, operating fee and nature store registers, handling phones and gov't. radio, responding to visitor correspondence, distributing brochures, collecting fees and selling federal passes, stocking store sales items, and light cleaning, including bathrooms. May assist with environmental education programs and operate audio/visual equipment. Local volunteers are welcomed on a daily basis. The Refuge has RV pads with full hook-ups (electric, water, septic, propane, land-line phone, volunteer bldg. with kitchen, eating/game area, full bathrooms, laundry facilities ) available in exchange for 4 days/week of work from each volunteer. Schedules vary depending on volunteer and Refuge needs. Visitor Center work hours are usually from 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Maintenance work is usually 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Other positions, inside or outside (assisting the maintenance crew with repair work, mowing, cleaning, light carpentry, trail maintenance, scout coordinators) are available. Sometimes, special projects, such as working festivals or with the Texas Jr. Duck Stamp Contest are also available. We especially look for volunteers with backgrounds as educators or naturalists and with skills in birding, photography, or maintenance (carpentry, plumbing, landscaping). Opportunities are available year-round. Training and at-work transportation is provided.
HOUSING & AMENITIES Description: RV PADS
Community Building with full kitchen, bathrooms and laundry.
RV pad with 30 and 50 amp electricity, water, sewer, picnic table, and on-site washer, dryer, and refrigerator in exchange for 24 to 32 hours/week on average. Minimum 2 months. Maximum 10 months. You will be responsible for your own propane.
