The primary duty is to staff the Pacific West Region Information Center (PWRIC). The PWRIC is located at in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area Headquarters building.
The Center provides information about National Parks in the Pacific West Region of the country that includes parks in California, Nevada, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Guam and American Samoa. The PWRIC also receives requests for information about other areas and agencies including San Francisco city parks, California State Parks and U. S. Forest Service areas.
Description of Duties
Responding to visitor inquiries in person, over the phone and by mail. These inquiries will range widely in topic
Updating informational materials for visitors
Special activities/opportunities may occur as Park Service needs arise.
This position requires the ability to prioritize visitors' needs and adapt to new situations to handle the demands of a busy office setting, e.g., answering phones, admitting visitors to the building, responding appropriately to emergency situations, prepare mailing materials, photocopying, filing, etc.
Applicants must be able to multitask and to work independently in absence of other staff.
As a National Park Service Volunteer you will provide information about National Park areas.

Sometimes, you will be the first and only contact visitors from all over the world will have within the National Park Service (NPS)
Meet fellow volunteers at trainings and social events.
Goal: The goal of the Information Center is to provide visitors with information abou the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and NPS sites in the Pacific West Region.
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to use office equipment and a telephone
Willingness to learn about the vast resources in our National Parks
Knowledge of other langauges and writing skills are beneficial, but not required. You will be required to wear an official National Park Service Volunteer uniform that will be provided to you.
Scheduled Hours: Four hours per week. Work periods are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 12:30 pm or 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Some flexibility possible, however reliability is necessary.
