Become a trail steward in beautiful Ozark-St.Francis National Forest! Adopt a trail or trailhead and provide basic maintenance and monitoring of that trail or trailhead. All of the Ozark-St. Francis Ranger Districts have a variety of trails and trailheads in need of TLC. Trails/trailheads are located on the Boston Mountain, Pleasant Hill, Mt. Magazine, St. Francis, Big Piney, and Sylmore Ranger Districts. OHTA trail adopter opportunities are also available.
Please contact Robert Duggan, Trails Coordinator, for more information and opportunities available.
You will be provided with an orientation to your adopted trail or trailhead, plus basic information and training on maintenance and upkeep to get the job done! Typical maintenance includes brushing of overgrown portions, picking up trash, clearing out behind water bars and steps, clearing culverts, and reporting any concerns or hazards to the district staff (visit your trail at least twice a year). At trailheads, you remove trash, monitor the sign conditions, and report any vandalism or other concerns (visit your trailhead at least once every fall and spring.)
This is a great opportunity for fun, exercise, meeting new people, bonding as a family, getting kids out on the trail, and/or strengthening your group's commitment to caring for your public lands.
What are you waiting for? Contact Robert and join others who have joined forces to make trails and trailheads more sustainable in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest.
