The Pecos Wilderness is a beautiful place to volunteer your time! Come join the team responsible for protecting and monitoring this wilderness resource. Duties include clearing trails with a crosscut saw (an extremely rewarding activity), making contacts with the public to educate and inform about trails and wilderness character, documenting user trends, rehabilitating campsites, documenting invasive weed species, removing trash, plus sign inventory and installation.
If you are experienced with backcountry camping, backpacking, Leave No Trace, map, compass, and GPS, and have a desire to volunteer as a land steward, this may be the opportunity for you!
Field reimbursement will be provided for 3 months in the backcountry with the possibility of additional reimbursement past the three month mark. Rangers are expected to be in the backcountry 15 nights/month. Each primitive backcountry trip will range from 3-8 days in length ($25/night). The ideal candidate will be able to carry personal gear, food, and tools while hiking in remote areas of the Pecos Wilderness.
Crosscut training will be provided. Current First Aid/CPR training is preferred.
Start/end dates are somewhat flexible.
Do you need an internship? This is great opportunity for gaining experience in natural resource management.
HOUSING & AMENITIES Type: Cabins Description: Rustic cabin--reimbursement for daily expenses is provided when volunteers are camping in the back country and performing required ranger duties.
