This opportunity is open to a retired couple as it requires both persons to assist in care of the campground. Campground Hosts will be responsible for three campgrounds (Observatory/ Fry Creek/ Crestline group campground).
Palomar Mountain is a mountain in the Peninsular Ranges in northern San Diego County. It is famous as the location of the Palomar Observatory and Hale Telescope.
Palomar Mountain features spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. Coniferous forests cover much of the area and this is one of the few southern California areas with a Sierra Nevada-like atmosphere
Local recreation staff will provide full training and support in duties. Campground Host perform daily responsibilities independently without direct supervision.
As a campground host you will often be the first Forest representative the visiting public encounters and the first person they will consider for information regarding the area. Volunteer Campground Hosts are an integral part of the Forest recreation program and are critical in achieving the Forest Service mission of "caring for the land and serving the people." As such, we are seeking individuals who can represent the Cleveland National Forest in a professional and courteous manner.
Major duties include:
Ensure campers are registered, and help visitors find campsites.
Explain regulations such as the campground fee system.
Assist with kiosk updates.
Provide information on recreational opportunities in the forest, with a special emphasis on fire conditions and restrictions.
Perform maintenance and cleaning of campground facilities and campsites;; report all maintenance problems to the Recreation Technician.
Gather information on visitor use and keep the supervisor informed of problems at the campground.
Notify supervisor or law enforcement ranger if illegal activity is observed.
Complete other duties or tasks as may be mutually agreed upon.
Work schedule is a minimum of four days per week, with days off usually Tuesday and Wednesday. Daily work schedule is based on campground activity, with a minimum of 25-30 hours per week.
A valid Driver's License is required.
HOUSING & AMENITIES Type: Trailer/RV Pads Description: Volunteer must have an RV or trailer, and it must be no longer then 20-25 feet. A free RV pad is provided to the host. Electricity, water, septic, and phone are also provided.
