Diamond Lake Ranger District is accepting applications to fill one camp host position at Diamond Lake Campground. Nested in the High Cascades along the shore of Diamond Lake, this popular campground has 239 dry-camp sites, a staffed gatehouse, two boat ramps, a fish cleaning station, a dump station, flush toilets, potable water and two shower buildings. This campground has a combination of first-come first-serve sites and reservation sites. The Diamond Lake Gatehouse located at the campground entrance is staffed by Forest Service personnel and serves as the primary check-in.
In addition, the Diamond Lake Visitor Center across the campground entrance is staffed by volunteers to further assist visitors with questions. The Diamond Lake Resort, located north of Diamond Lake Campground, is a full service resort offering boat rentals, bike rentals, lodging, meals, fishing licenses, gasoline, propane, and limited grocery and camping supplies.
Both host sites have full electric, water and sewer hookups. Laundry room facilities are available for volunteers. Cell service is available but is limited to Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular. Emergency phones are available at nearby Diamond Lake Gatehouse, Diamond Lake Visitor Center and Diamond Lake Resort. Diamond Lake Campground is centrally located to four full-service towns; Bend, Klamath Falls, Medford, and Roseburg, all approximately 2 hours away. Limited supplies can be purchased at Diamond Lake Resort, including gasoline and propane.
Primary host duties include extending a warm welcome to visitors, answering questions about the local area, reminding visitors of campground rules such as keeping campsites clean and keeping pets on a leash, performing compliance checks, updating reservation sheets, and communicating visitor conflicts to Forest Service staff. Other host duties involve helping with occasional campground needs such as picking up litter, cleaning picnic tables, grills and firepits, restocking toilet paper, and communicating maintenance problems with FS staff. Restrooms and shower buildings are cleaned by a contractor. Must be able to bend, lift and walk comfortably. Ability to use tools such as rakes, brooms, pruners, and shovels is preferred.
