Capitol Reef National Park is seeking Campground Hosts for a 71 site campground in the heart of the historic Fruita district.
Location Description: Capitol Reef National Park is located in south-central Utah and encompasses most of the striking 100-mile-long Waterpocket Fold, the largest exposed monocline in North America. The beautiful Fruita Campground is in the historic Fruita district and is home to the largest historic orchards in the National Park System. Myriad narrow canyons, towering cliffs, expansive slickrock, domes, arches and monoliths provide inspiration, solitude and recreational opportunities for approximately ¾ million people each year. The park also preserves archeological features and petroglyphs of the Fremont Culture, and the remnants of Fruita, a Mormon pioneer settlement
The Fruita Campground is at an elevation of 5,500 feet with mild spring and fall temperatures, and average summer temperatures in the high 80’s. Basic groceries, gas, and restaurants are available in Torrey. Dental and medical services are in Bicknell, 20 miles west of park headquarters. Larger supermarkets, stores, and a hospital are in Richfield, 75 miles west. Personal transportation is highly recommended.
Duties: Capitol Reef National Park Campground Hosts courteously greet visitors and orients them to the campground and other services/facilities in the park. In addition, they will
Aid campers in securing a campsite and properly registering
Rove campground and educate campers about the park and campground regulations
Notify law enforcement ranger if illegal activity is observed
Remain in the campground when on duty (4 days on and 4 days off)
Assist visitors with problems and resolving minor disputes
Report campground status to the Visitor Center staff throughout the day using a hand-held radio
Perform minor maintenance when directed, if qualified; report all other maintenance problems to the park maintenance office
Required number of hours per week (minimum): 32 (Due to the nature of Campground Hosting, it is not unusual for visitors to contact Hosts as early as 6:00am and/or as late as 11:00pm.
Duration: Campground hosts are needed to staff the Fruita Campground from July 9, 2018 to November 3, 2018. The season is split into two sessions – two sets of Campground Hosts will be selected to work from Mid-March to Mid-July and another two sets will be selected for the Mid-July to the end of October session. This announcement is for Fall Campground Host only, that is from Mid-July to Early-November. ALL DATES ARE APPROXIMATE. Candidates must be available for the entire session. Two people are preferred.
