As the museum program volunteer for Sitka National Historical Park, you will work in cooperation with the Curator and other park staff on cultural resource projects in the park. Your primary responsibilities will be to process an archival collection for long term storage and to assist with the ongoing maintenance of museum spaces in the park, including documenting environmental conditions, monitoring for museum pests, and carrying out scheduled museum housekeeping activities. Additional tasks may include inventorying object collections, updating records in the museum cataloging database, conducting object research and assisting with public inquiries.
Qualifications: Must possess superb organization skills, acute attention to detail, adaptability to the established NPS-standard systems, and be able to work in a museum environment for prolonged periods of concentrated effort. Experience working with museum collections or in a museum setting is preferred, but not required. Must be comfortable writing in longhand. Also must be proficient in using a Windows OS computer and have experience using Microsoft excel. If you drive a government vehicle, you must have a valid driver’s license.
