Looking for locals form the surrounding communities - No housing or RV site available
Lake Mead National Recreation Area is looking for bright and friendly locals from the surrounding communities to help staff the park’s main visitor center. Volunteer hours coincide with normal business hours, Monday-Sunday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. We ask our volunteers to work a minimum of one shift, once a week, for 4 hours or more, so visitors can enjoy the park and surrounding lands in a safe and knowledgeable manner. Daily shifts are from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Volunteers are needed to greet and assist visitors by providing accurate information about the recreation area and surrounding areas. The visitor center desk volunteer is the first person our visitors see. We are looking for volunteers who are friendly and enjoy working with others; have an outgoing demeanor; and a good sense of humor. Duties would include:
Assisting with opening and/or closing the visitor center
Providing basic information and directions to visitor so they can have a safe and enjoyable visit to the area
Operating a cash register
Address and fill information requests
Begin park movie for visitors
Assist with keeping the handout and bookstore merchandise stocked
Recording visitor statistics
Basic housekeeping chores
We look forward to having you join our team! Training will be provided in all areas of operations. REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of one (1) shift per week
Live in the surrounding communities - Boulder City, Henderson or Las Vegas area
Minimum age 16 years old
Must be able to provide transportation to and from – no public transportation available
WHAT MAKES A GREAT VOLUNTEER?
Possesses the ability to communicate effectively with the public.
Possesses the ability to work in both a team environment as well as independently.
Enjoys being indoors working at the information desk.
Is available to work a regular schedule.
Is interested in a long-term commitment.
Can speak more than one language is a plus; although, not required. Visitors come from all over the world. Spanish, German, French, Italian, Japanese, and Chinese are just a few languages that would be useful.
