The New York-New Jersey Trail Conference has a trail adoption program active in the Delaware Water Gap (16 trail segments totaling 31.3 miles).
It’s thanks in large part to volunteer Trail Maintainers that these trails stay safe and accessible. If you love to hike and are interested in giving back to your public lands, consider adopting a trail segment and becoming an official Trail Maintainer. As a maintainer you’ll be expected to submit two reports annually describing your activity during the spring and fall seasons – one full inspection and maintenance trip is required per reporting period, but many maintainers take pride in their trails and make multiple trips a season. Transforming an overgrown path into a neatly trimmed and blazed trail is a very satisfying experience!
