Job description: Visitor Services volunteers will need the ability to multi task and utilize communication and presentation skills to introduce and provide a National Park experience for the visiting public. Duties include staffing the visitor center, providing information, education and informal interpretation for visitors to the park; providing correct information for park service phone callers; assisting visitors purchasing an America the Beautiful-The National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands Pass; making tour reservations for individuals and groups; operating exhibits including park orientation and/or interpretive film; assisting rangers with individuals needing special assistance in the visitor center or on guided tours, record visitor statistics for park use.
Qualifications: Applicants should have a keen interest in and knowledge of the civil rights movement, public speaking skills, customer service skills, ability to organize information, ability to work cooperatively with others in a stressful environment, ability to follow directions and handle controversial issues with tact and in a professional manner, knowledge of the local area, and the ability to tolerate changing climate/temperature for extended periods of time.
Time commitment: Volunteer would need to make a commitment as position requires training.
Selection criteria/age requirement: Applicant should specify interest on Volunteer Services Application; applicants must be a minimum of 16 years old. Background check may be required.
