EXCITING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY! Be a part of the volunteer team with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service at the Natchitoches National Fish Hatchery Aquarium! We are currently seeking volunteers to help maintain and care for our aquarium and fish, and other hatchery activities. Volunteer duties will include cleaning and care of the 16 aquarium tanks, feeding the fish, and assisting with grounds maintenance. Volunteers will be asked to Open and Close the Aquarium on weekends, and to provide informative tours to visiting public and students during school field trips. The hatchery currently has immediate openings for a Workamper and other volunteers.
For those who are Workampers - In exchange for service, volunteers receive a free paved RV site with water, electric and sewer. Volunteers are asked to work a minium of 24 hours per week. The Hatchery is locationed in Historic Natchitoches, LA. Natchitoches is a town steeped in history as the oldest permanent settlement in the Louisiana Purchase and sits on the banks of Cane River Lake. A short drive from Natchitoches you can find Historic Plantations manned by the National Park Service, go hiking on trails within Kisatchie National Forest or fish the Cane River Lake, Red River, or Sibley Lake. Natchitoches is also famous for being the inspiration and filming location for the movie “Steel Magnolias”. For other volunteers in the local area, any and all hours are greatly appreciated. Volunteers are provided uniforms, training, and a truly unique and engaging volunteer opportunity!
HOUSING & AMENITIES Type: Trailer/RV Pads Description: Water, sewer, and electricity provided. Refills on propane tanks will also be provided. No propane tanks are available at station. Camper will need to provide their own tanks.
