Volunteer is responsible for operating a visitor center. Operation tasks include greeting park visitors and providing information on safe navigation of the park and cultural, historical, and natural points of interest throughout the park and in the area. Some knowledge of the park and local area will be necessary to answer visitor questions, including location and how to access attractions from the visitor center. Volunteer advises visitors of park regulations and explains the importance of such for protection of the site, resources, and/or safety of visitors. During heavy visitation, volunteer is required to stand long periods of time. Volunteer provides administrative support by responding to phone inquiries, taking reservations for interpretive programs, keeping statistics, greeting special groups, and counting visitors. Volunteer may be asked to assist park staff in performing ongoing projects such as mending, filing, labeling, and preparing mailings, and answering phones. The volunteer operates a cash register.
