Job Description: Welcome and assist people from around the world at the Zion Canyon Visitor Center. Volunteers help visitors with trip-planning so they can get the most out of their visit and share interesting information about the natural and human history of Zion National Park. The scope of the work includes:
Staff the Zion Canyon Visitor Center information desk: assisting visitors with trip planning, answering questions about the park and surrounding area, and sharing information about park regulations.
Provide visitors with safety information (e.g. trail conditions, potential hazards, flash floods) and resource protection messages (e.g. walking off trail, feeding wildlife, removing objects). Stay informed of continually changing information.
Share information about natural and cultural resources of Zion National Park as well as the mission and goals of the National Park Service with visitors.
May perform opening and closing procedures or operate audiovisual equipment.
Handle emergency situations and contact park emergency personnel.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required for application to be considered:
Have an interest in and be able to communicate with a high volume of people of all ages and backgrounds.
Have excellent interpersonal communication skills and be able to maintain a courteous and professional demeanor in stressful situations.
Have an interest in and work towards learning more about the cultural and natural history of Zion National Park.
Be able to work in a busy, high-stress environment.
Ability to adhere to established protocols and standard operating procedures and follow written and verbal instructions.
Agree to wear NPS Volunteer uniform according to uniform policy.
Be able to pass a basic background investigation.
