This Volunteer Position is well suited for a people orientated couple: 45 miles north of Helena, Montana, is the 124 foot high Holter Dam. 2 miles over the top of this "run-of-the-river" dam, is the Log Gulch Campground and boat launch. This well maintained, campground and popular boat launch, is one of Montana's favorite! Swimming, boating, fishing, camping, and picnicking are ongoing actives all summer long.
You Will Be Assisting with the Management: This is a 75 site campground that has a busy boat launch with docks. Daily compliance checks need to be done for the day use parking, and camping fees. However, You will not collect any money from the public. Some people need to be politely reminded about the 10pm quiet hours, and to turn off their generators. Also, keeping their dogs off the beach, and on their leash. You will be asked lots of common questions, and informing the public about regulations. Your assistance with public safety, and assurance for the security of our equipment, and facilities is essential.
You Will Be Cleaning: Ten concrete style vault toilets get frequent use, and must be re-stocked with toilet paper. Fire rings need to be periodically emptied of ashes, and garbage picked-up. You may be asked to assist with some grounds maintenance; watering, weeding, and hauling materials to the dump. Some basic carpentry skills would be helpful: painting, fencing, plumbing, and irrigation systems. We have all the supplies, equipment and tools. You will also be taking care of Departure Point campground and day use area.
You will be assisting the resident Park Ranger, who primarily works weekends. Your work schedule could vary with seasonal, or daily demands. It may include busy weekends, unassisted weekdays, and some late evening shifts. You should have 2-3 days off each week!
