VIP will staff the Visitor Center desk. This will involve greeting visitors, answering questions (often repeatedly answering the same questions to each new group of visitors), and providing park/area information, assisting with the Junior Ranger program, maintaining visitor use statistics, and performing opening/closing procedures in the Visitor Center. VIP may be asked to rove park trails, parking areas, and Prairie Dog town to informally interact with visitors and answer questions. Park Orientation and Interpretation training will be provided upon arrival. VIP may be asked to assist with some traffic management around the Visitor Center. Additional skills or interests may be utilized on an as needed basis, but this will not be a requirement of the position.
Hours worked will be determined upon selection, but 15-20 hours per week preferred. This position may work irregular hours. Length of service and weekly schedule will be determined upon selection. VIP may be asked to work a different schedule for special events/projects, but will be given notice prior to the change.
The Visitor Center VIP represents the National Park Service and will be required to wear the designated uniform items. Uniform items consist of hats, shirts, and pants. The park will provide uniform hats and shirts. Brown or khaki pants will be provided by the volunteer.
