Get outside and maintain the grounds at the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge Complex. Volunteers play a vital role in the visitor services program on the five refuges (Sacramento, Delevan, Colusa, Sutter, and the Sacramento River NWRs).
We are looking for an individual or couple who is/are self-motivated and can work through project lists to keep the Complex looking good to help the short staffed field crew staff. Volunteer(s) will maintain grounds and facilities around the visitor center, trails, platforms and more during the spring/summer growing season. Work 3-4 days during the week to complete tasks.
Requirements: Must be able to use: lawn mower, weed eater, blower, hand trimmers, etc. and have a valid driver's license. Must have an interest to work on maintenance-type projects, the ability to perform physically active work, and have a valid driver's license.
Work Environment: Sacramento NWR is the headquarters/residence and is located 7 miles south of the town of Willows and is adjacent to Interstate 5. The staff consists of over 20 employees. Willows has a few restaurants, grocery store (including Walmart). Chico is the closest city with a 45-min drive. Volunteers needing a residential site must be able to work at least 3.5 months. Local volunteers are also encouraged to apply and are required to work at least 2-3 times per month.
HOUSING & AMENITIES Type: Trailer/RV Pads Description: RV pads available. RV pads have electric, water, and propane. No sewage available for RVs but refuge pays for weekly pumped out. Space in bunkhouse is limited. Bunkhouse is next to RV spaces and provides laundry, showers, restrooms, limited television, wireless internet and a double kitchen. Two mile walking trail is nearby (daylight only).
