Tour Guides at the First Ladies National Historic Site interpret the history of First Ladies through the story of Canton's own First Lady, Ida Saxton McKinley. Our guides are specially trained onsite using various resources to give tours and convey to the public the importance of First Lady history and its impact on American History.
Tour Guide duties also include:
Welcoming guests to our site
Staying up to date on First Lady history to remain knowledgeable on the topic
Answering visitor questions related to First Ladies, our organization, the National Park Service and the Canton area
Keeping track of time to ensure tours stay on track
Qualifications and Requirements:
Attend yearly continuing education courses to remain an active volunteer
Must be able to commit to a schedule of 8 hours per month for a minimum of 6 months. Training as a tour guide typically takes anywhere from 2-3 months depending on the individual.
Must be comfortable working with people of various backgrounds, beliefs and interests
