This advertisement is for a camp host position at the South Rim Campground within Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park near Montrose, Colorado. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is managed by the National Park Service. The area has myriad opportunities for outdoor recreation including fishing and boating on reservoirs in the adjacent Curecanti National Recreation Area as well as opportunities for land based recreation within the Park and on adjacent lands.
Camp hosts work 32 hours per week with at least two consecutive days off per week. These hours can be worked by an individual or divided between a couple. Uniforms are required - volunteer uniform shirts are provided; hosts are responsible for providing their own trousers and footwear. These positions begin in mid-May and continue through Labor Day (early to mid September). A season-long commitment is preferred (4-5 months), but shorter lengths will be considered.
**This position does not allow camphosts to possess dogs due to the campground being a known deer fawning location and historical problems with dog/deer interactions in the past.**
Volunteers will receive an orientation to the park and training to fulfill all assigned duties, including:

Being prominently located as a resource for campers; this includes providing accurate, concise information to the public and communicating the information in a professional manner.
Hosts are expected to assist visitors who stop by the host campsite.
Performing "rounds" in the entire campground twice a day (typically early morning and evening) by foot (if vehicle is not available) for the purpose of answering visitor questions, checking fee compliance, and educating visitors on park resources and regulations.

Using handheld radios to communicate with staff and other volunteers in a professional manner.
Assisting park staff with management of the campground.
