This volunteer position assists the natural resources biologist at Petrified Forest National Park with off-season activities to include data entry and proofing, formulation of interpretive products describing the plants and animals in the park, photo interpretation and organization, updating reports and lists, and some data collection on avian species. Based on volunteer's interests and abilities, some outside work may involve the routine maintenance of drift fences and bucket traps throughout the park.
Due to the remoteness, reliable personal transportation and a valid drivers license are also required. Please include three references (with phone numbers) in section 19 of the application. References should be unrelated to you and able to speak about your ability and/or aptitude for the position. Also, couples must complete applications for EACH person. The nearest grocery stores and medical care are located in Gallup NM, 75 miles to the east of the north entrance and Holbrook AZ, located 21 miles to the west of the north entrance. Large hospitals are located in Show Low and Flagstaff with helicopter service available for emergencies.
