Spend quality time in one of the nation’s most breathtaking and newest national parks by playing an important role in the protection of the unique resources of Pinnacles National Park. Come out and explore the beautiful areas Pinnacles has to offer and participate in trailwork.
Pinnacles National Park is seeking 1 enthusiastic individual for an internship with the Trails crew. Work schedule will be 40 hours per weekfrom late May to August.
Perform some basic trail maintenance tasks.
Installation and cleaning of water bars and grade dips/swales using hand tools (mattock, hoe, shovel, cross cut saw, ax, etc.).
Removal of encroaching vegetation and if necessary trail blockages like boulders or downed trees using hand tools.
Building retaining walls.
Other equipment used (outside the recommended wilderness) may include, weed trimmers, back pack leaf blowers, and cordless drills.
Hike sections of 35 miles of feral pig fence in remote, rugged areas of Pinnacles NP to assess structural effectiveness, collect data, correct minor issues and promptly report major ones.
May perform data entry as needed.
Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team or independently.
An interest and ability to work outdoors in arduous field conditions is required. Housing is not available.
The ability to work well with staff and a diversity of park partners is required.
Willingness to work outside and hike up to 10 miles per day.
Ability to hike in steep terrain carrying up to 40 lbs of gear/equipment.
Ability to work safely in adverse weather conditions and during exposure to poison oak, biting insects, and rattlesnakes.
Attention to detail.

• Eligible for an Americorps Education Award, after 900 hours of service you earn $ 2,907.50 may be available
