Main Goals for This Position to Accomplish:
Through front line customer service, volunteers will perform a variety of customer service including campground surveys, assisting campers, and some custodial work.
Brief Description of Work to be Performed:
Hosts will serve as liaison between park users & park staff, greet and assist visitors, answer questions and explain regulations which apply to them. May assist campers in locating a campsite, Will perform light maintenance work around the campground such as litter pickup, cleaning and stocking of restrooms, provide information to park staff on potential problems, and disseminate information to campers; be familiar with local points of interest and the location of services that might be requested by campers such as towing, groceries, churches, tourist attractions and local events. Hosts shall not attempt to discipline or apprehend any park violators. Hosts will report all disturbances to park staff.
Length of Commitment:
Length of stay is a two-month commitment during the specified time schedules, June 1 – July 1 Volunteers will work a 5 day on/2 day off schedule. If leave time is needed it must be traded out with another host. Two hosts per loop is essential.
Tools, Equipment, and Vehicles to be Operated:
You will operate a golf cart, a weed eater, blower, and a small lawn mower in the scope of your duties.
Location Where Work Will Be Performed:
You will reside and work in Davis Bayou in Gulf Islands National Seashore, Mississippi District.
Physical Requirements of Work:
The work is generally seated, standing, walking, or bending with some lifting on an occasional basis. Must be physically able to perform all duties with the necessary equipment.
Benefits to the Volunteer:
Items provided to VIPs will be uniform shirts, cap and name tag, cellphone, keys, and electric vehicle, as well as a campsite will full hookups. Supervisions will be provided by the campground supervisor and maintenance lead. VIPs will be trained in campground registration procedures, rules, regulations and host responsibilities. Volunteers will be trained in maintenance duties and provided with park films, and online training as applicable. After working 250 hours VIPs are eligible for an annual Volunteer Pass for all Federal Fee Areas. Supervision will be provided by the staff at the CG office. VIPs will be trained in procedures, rules, regulations and responsibilities.
