The Prescott National Forest Recreation Program is always accepting applications for volunteers in the following categories:
Administrative Support Volunteer
Campground or Day Use Host Volunteer
Duties: Duties vary by volunteer opportunity and could include services such as below:
Greet visitors and provide information (e.g., regulations, recreational opportunities in the area, directions, payment of fees, etc.).
Assist visitors with finding available camp sites.
Be visible to the public: wear volunteer uniform and present a positive image of the Forest Service.
Clean restrooms, grills, picnic tables, and steel fire rings.
Pick up litter and other refuse. Take full trash bags to dumpster.
Note needed supplies and repairs and communicate site needs appropriately.
Extinguish and report abandoned campfires.
Report rule violations to Forest Service personnel. Accompany Forest Service Personnel while conducting patrols of designated dispersed camping corridors.
Report incidents to Forest Service Dispatch and appropriate Forest Service Personnel.
Duties may also include opening and closing entrance gates, sign installation/maintenance, painting, pruning, etc.
Typical clerical tasks include activities such as data recording, inventory of supplies, organizing files, etc.
Ability to communicate in a pleasant and effective manner with visitors, volunteers, and Forest Service employees.
Ability to walk over uneven terrain and work in various weather conditions (rain, snow, cold and heat).
Ability to lift 30 to 50 pounds.
Ability to use hand tools, shovels, rakes, and common cleaning supplies.
Volunteer positions that require operation of golf carts or other equipment require a current driver’s license and proof of insurance.
Volunteer host positions require a background check with complete fingerprint card(s) and voluntary release form(s).
Note: Campsites are available for hosting opportunities. Amenities for volunteer host positions vary by location and are not all-inclusive. Appropriate training, review of Job Hazard Analyses and protective equipment are required prior to performing any volunteer duties.
