Education: Volunteer must possess a high school diploma or higher.
Experience: Volunteer must have good communication skills and be able to work effectively with a wide range of people and personalities, as well as work and drive unsupervised. Should be comfortable using computers, including use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Physical Requirements: Work varies from sedentary office phases to field work requiring ability to operate a 4x4 vehicle (training provided). Field work also involves hiking in remote areas for extended periods, carrying equipment such as tablets, GPS units, cameras, etc, in a variety of weather conditions.
Position Duration: Begin by or before May 15, 2018, unless still in school. Hours are flexible; work 20-40 hours/wk. Must work between Monday – Friday (6 am – 6 pm). Minimum commitment: 450 hours
Compensation: Volunteer will benefit from federal work experience, as well as a series of Department of the Intertior trainings, such as 4x4 driving, NEPA legislation, land description/land status, and Special Recreation Permits. Volunteers will receive additional training in Wilderness Study Area monitoring, use of GIS/GPS systems, Access database, and more! No stipend or housing available.
