Congaree National Park is looking for highly motivated individuals to provide high quality educational programs to fourth grade students. These volunteers will lead groups of fourth grade students (25-50 per group) on a guided walk along the park's Boardwalk Trail (approximately 1.25 miles round trip). These programs will focus on the following topics:
The Importance of National Parks
Floodplain Forest Ecology
Natural History of Congaree National Park
Cultural History of the Congaree Floodplain
For those who are not fully versed in the above topics, the park will provide training opportunities to build on the volunteer's knowledge. All applicants should have at least some prior experience (paid or non-paid) in communicating with children and/or providing educational or interpretive programing.
Most of these tours will be offered from 9:00am to 11:30am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in February, March, April and May of 2018. Applicants do not need to be available for all of the days in this time period. If selected, there is flexibility on which dates volunteers can sign up for ahead of time.
