VIP Job Description – Fort Pickens Campground – Maintenance/Custodial Worker
The primary purpose of the position is to perform a variety of custodial work.
Location and Access: The Campground Restroom/Shower-house Buildings (A, B, D, E Loops) are located in Fort Pickens Campground, Pensacola Beach, Florida.
Operates light trucks and Utility vehicle (UTV) to transport self and other custodial workers to work sites in and around the Campground areas (Volunteers must receive and pass Mandatory Training Course prior to operating any government Vehicle, UTV, Mowers, or other Equipment, etc,).
Operates hand tools and power equipment such as hand and riding lawn mowers, weed eaters, hand saws, hatchets and clippers to perform tasks.
Performs the full range of cleaning duties in assigned areas including; public use areas, work areas, walkways and sidewalks, toilet facilities, and restrooms. Uses various preparations to clean and maintain wood, tile, and, walls, and ceiling surfaces.
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors using brooms, mops, and vacuum cleaners. Removes stains from a variety of surfaces using chemicals and cleaning solutions. Empties waste baskets. Polishes stainless steel and metal fixtures; Washes walls and windows.
Keeps restrooms in clean, orderly, and sanitary condition. Sweeps, scrubs, and waxes floors. Cleans, disinfects, and deodorizes lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls. Cleans mirrors, sinks, and water fountains. Dusts ledges and woodwork. Replaces deodorizers, toilet tissue, hand towels, and soap. Uses plungers and chemicals to unclog drains and toilets. Notes conditions requiring maintenance.
Keeps stock of cleaning materials and equipment needed to do the work. Advises supervisor when more materials are needed or when equipment is in need of repair or replacement.
Moves heavy supplies, furniture, and equipment.
Removes debris from walkways and parking areas. Keeps interior and exterior of assigned areas free of litter and debris.
Remove used charcoal and other debris from grills and fire rings in campsites.
Respond and turn off alarms on lift station pumps.
Assists as needed, higher graded workers performing a variety of general and preventive maintenance during the course of their work in park facilities.
Reports problems pertaining to overall maintenance and upkeep of park facilities and restrooms. Reports depletion of cleaning supplies and other materials to supervisor.
Ensures the comfort and safe transport of passengers and cargo. Follows traffic rules and safe operating practices for moving vehicles.
Knowledge and Skills Required
Skill in operating a motor vehicle safely on short runs, following prescribed routes within the Fort Pickens Campground area of the park. Ability to load and arrange materials so they do not shift or fall. The Motor Vehicle Operator must maintain a valid state driver's license.
Ability to do all cleaning duties while working alone and without direct supervision.
Knowledge of the proper use of a variety of cleaning and sanitizing solutions and the cleaning procedures for public use facilities.
Ability to remove different kinds of stains from a variety of surfaces.
Ability to use a variety of common cleaning tools.
Physical ability to handle and control heavy powered equipment and to do minor maintenance on this equipment.
Duties require sitting, standing, bending, or walking for extended periods of time.
Much of the work will be conducted indoors with close proximity to cleaning chemicals.
