The Primary Care Clinic Medical Assistant VIP performs a variety of medical support tasks in a family practice/urgent care setting. Typical tasks involve: interviewing patients to elicit their medical history; measuring and recording vital signs; assisting patients to be comfortable and safe at all times while in the clinic; preparing patients for and assisting with the completion of physical examination (may act as in-room chaperone during patient-provider encounters); assisting physician, physician-assistant and registered nurse personnel (i.e., “clinical personnel”) by carrying out instructions to expedite patient care; informing patients about the care they receive under the guidance of clinical personnel; relaying and reinforcing health information to patients, consistent with care plans devised by clinical personnel; performing limited laboratory testing; ensuring exam rooms and clinic areas are stocked with proper level of medical supplies; as requested, participating in public health and community outreach activities; gathering information for the electronic health record application (may or may not require computer access); scanning, copying and transmitting information via electronic means; demonstrating familiarity with and practicing compliance with standards and requirements such as patient privacy protection (e.g., HIPAA Privacy Rule), universal precautions guidelines for health care including bloodborne pathogens, and NPS policies and procedures.
Qualifications/Eligibility:The ideal candidate will have experience working in a primary care or urgent care clinic environment or training in a health related field; familiarity with the US health care system (systems and types of delivery of, and payment for, medical care, regulation of medical care); medical certification is a plus. REQUIRED skills of candidate include customer service (experience in positive public contacts), ability to multi task, quick learner, self-motivated, and strong communication skills. Reliable attendance, fluency in the English language, and clean, neat appearance are required. Licensure (MA, EMT-B, or other) is not a requirement for this position but may be qualifying.
