Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge is hiring for RV volunteers or couples to work as campground hosts during the 2018/2019 season. We are looking for three-month or longer commitments from September through May.
Few landscapes are as contrasting as Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge’s (NWR) lush wetlands and the surrounding Mojave Desert. Nourished by life-giving waters of Crystal and Ash Springs, Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge offers wetland and riparian habitats for thousands of migratory birds, numerous birds of prey, deer, reptiles, small mammals, and rare fish. As a campground host, you will be immersed in a desert oasis paradise. The camp host RV pad has a beautiful view of the Upper Lake and ready access to the refuge hiking trails.
The applicant will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of 15 first-come, first-serve campsites around the Upper Lake. The host will also be expected to provide information to refuge visitors; keep the bathrooms, picnic grounds, and walking trails clean and free from debris; stock brochures and other promotional materials; and occasionally assist with school groups or other special events as needed. If willing and able, the host may also participate in maintenance or habitat rehabilitation work thoughout the refuge.
The refuge is 7 miles away from the town of Alamo, which has a grocery store, gas station, post office, and senior center. It is a half-day's drive away from several National Parks, including Grand Canyon, Zion, Arches, and Canyonlands. Las Vegas, with its world-famous restaurants and entertainment, is only 90 miles away.
RV or motor home utility hook-ups for electric, sewage, and propane will be available. Water needs to be hauled from the headquarters area 2 miles south of the campgrounds. A refuge vehicle, trailer, and tank will be supplied for this task. The campground host commitment requires at least 28 hours/week.
When applying, please provide contact information for three references. Two references should be professional. If applying as a couple, please provide both applicant names.
