Kids experience history, culture and nature at Aztec Ruins National Monument!
Join our Education Team (park rangers, interns and volunteers). This site hosts dozens of field trips, over 100 classroom visits and multiple summer Junior Ranger camps on an annual basis. Over 100 schools exist within a day-field-trip range of this World Heritage site.
Local volunteers are welcome, with a suggested time commitment of 4 hrs/week. Background checks will be required, because we are committed to keeping our youth safe.
Education team volunteers will:
Participate in team training (annual):
Become familiar with the NPS and Aztec Ruins National Monument
Learn about ancestral Pueblo buildings and artifacts
Discover interpretive and educational techniques
Observe and/or assist at least one field trip event
Be part of an education events email list where we ask who might be available for upcoming events
Let us know which events you would like to volunteer for
Make a difference:
Assist rangers with educational activities during scheduled events
Eventually lead an event station or a "story stop" during field trips, helping to connect kids with history in a relevant and interesting way.
Possibly help design new educational activities, as need arises.
If interested, lead "traveling trunk" and "FindYourPark" presentations in a classroom setting.
The time involved for these team members varies depending on the number of field trip requests. These events require a lot of patience and flexibility (bus delays, weather changes), but the reward (kids connecting with their history and their heritage) is priceless.
