The Carson National Forest, Questa Ranger District, is seeking current high school students with an interest in volunteering on a continual or rotating basis for office/clerical duties. The opportunity will be located indoors performing activities that may include the following: office/clerical duties, greeting forest visitors and answering phone calls, working with computers, visitor information, general assistance, checking and/or restocking office supplies, maintaining equipment, developing or maintaining interpretive displays, assembling packets, scanning/faxing documents, filing, and various office related duties. Volunteers will be required to behave in a manner appropriate to the workplace. Volunteers must follow all applicable safety guidelines.
Ideally, we are looking for 1-2 volunteers who can serve a minimum of 4-12 hours per week. More hours per week are possible if volunteers are interested. Applicants must be able to provide their own transportation to and from the Questa Ranger District. Housing is not available. A parent or legal guardian must provide written consent before a person under 18 years of age may volunteer.
Able to work in office setting
Be a good public speaker and have friendly and respectful customer service skills
Be highly motivated, organized, energetic, and a self-starter
Need to uphold USFS standards, guidelines, and requirements
The Questa Ranger Station is located about 2 miles east of Questa, New Mexico on Highway 38 and is part of the Carson National Forest. The Questa Ranger District receives many visitors every year and provides for multiple recreational experiences such as camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, wildlife viewing, ATV riding, etc.
The Questa Ranger District is handicap accessible. Kitchen facilities, bathrooms, and potable water are available. Office hours are Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm (MST). The office is closed on weekends and holidays.
If selected for a volunteer position, the Forest Service will provide an additional volunteer agreement, job hazard analysis, and emergency contact form that will need to be submitted.
