Calling all Cold War and military history enthusiasts. We need your help at Everglades National Park. Here in the park we have one of the best preserved Nike Hercules Missile Bases remaining in the United States. Built by the US Army Corps of Engineers at the height of the Cold War the HM-69 Nike Missile Base is now being preserved and interpreted for the benefit of current and future generations. We are looking for a few dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to commit to volunteering one day per week from mid-November 2018 to mid-April 2019 to staff the Nike Missile Site “Open House” from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. This “Open House” was created to provide enhanced opportunity for the visiting public to see, experience and be inspired by the site without having to attend the formal Ranger Guided tours. Since starting the “Open House” program the public visitation to the Nike Missile Site has more than doubled. Services volunteers provide to the visiting public include; open/closing the Site, interpreting the Site for visitors, providing basic information and orientation services. If you enjoy interacting with the visiting public, the Cold War and the mission of the National Park Service this may be just the opportunity for you to make a valuable and rewarding contribution.
