Pecos National Historical Park is seeking an intern or dedicated volunteer who is enthusiastic about working with both the public and the park's museum collection. The candidate will split his/her time 60/40 between interpretation and collections management duties. The candidate will give interpretive programs, staff the visitor center, develop website content and/or exhibit content, and assist with special events and special projects. In addition, the intern will attend to museum housekeeping tasks, accession inventory, collections inventory work, etc... under the direction of the park's curator.
This is the perfect opportunity for someone looking to take advantage of the off-season to broaden/diversify his/her interpretive and cultural resource management skills. This opportunity is ideal for those who enjoy working with the public and for those who have a strong interest in visual arts, graphic design, interpretive writing and/or research. Interested candidates should have exceptional attention to detail, be comfortable with computer work, exhibit strong organizational skills, and have good handwriting. Volunteer will be expected to work 40 hours/week. A modest stipend may be available. Housing is provided.
Pecos National Historical Park is located 2 miles south of the village of Pecos, New Mexico on State Highway 63, four miles north of interstate 25. Pecos NHP is 25 miles east of Santa Fe and 44 miles to the west of Las Vegas, New Mexico. The multi-cultural resource of the park are enclosed in a predominately piñon/juniper woodland plant community with elevation from 6900 to 7400 feet. Precipitation averages 17 inches per year. HOUSING & AMENITIES Type: Cabins Description: In exchange for five days per week of volunteer service, Pecos NHP offers a fully-furnished casita. Please note that there is decent cell service, but no internet or television available in housing.
