Park Host (Waitsboro Recreation Area. Burnside, KY):
This position is with the U.S Army Corps of Engineers, Lake Cumberland. The volunteer(s) is assigned duties at Waitsboro Recreation Area and will not receive any compensation for the work described below.
Major Duties:
Become familiar with applicable Corps of Engineers rules and regulations. Supply visitors with information and regulations concerning the Corps of Engineer lake projects.
Inspect day use comfort stations (restrooms) periodically between scheduled cleanups (at least once in the day) and report needs to Contract or Corps of Engineers personnel.
Report maintenance items. Examples: report a stopped up commode, lack of toiletry supplies, broken lights, water leaks, etc.
Walk the entire day use area daily. Make checks of shelters, beach, bulletin boards, etc. Provide information concerning day user fee areas and annual passes. The following is only applicable to day user fee areas: At the Waitsboro Boat Ramp place informative flyers on windshields of vehicles that do not have an annual pass or current pay stub. Maintain a working list (included vehicle description, date, and tag number) of possible violators and give list to a Park Ranger on a weekly basis.
Minor physical tasks may be asked of the volunteer. Examples: split and stack wood with a wood splitter, paint sign posts, trimming bushes back, etc.
Help maintain quiet hours (from 10:00 pm until 6:00 am).
Report any compliance problems, vandalism, speeding, and other disturbances to a Park Ranger or local law enforcement officer. If an incident happens during working hours (7:00 am to 5:00 pm) call the Resource Managers Office first. If after working hours, call the local Sheriff’s Department.
Do not erect any signs or barricades. No dog pens, poultry cages or similar facilities for pets or the raising of animals will be allowed.
Report changes in work schedule to the volunteer coordinator or another Park Ranger if volunteer coordinator is unavailable.
Qualifications:
Anyone may apply to serve as a Park Host Volunteer. This position, however, requires tact, courtesy, and the ability to work with the public. The volunteer host will be responsible in carrying out recurring assignments independently and will do so with a friendly attitude towards the public at all times. The volunteer host must agree to serve the length of the recreation season.
Working conditions:
Volunteer Host are required to be available a minimum of 4 hours between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm daily, 5 days a week. Availability on weekend and evening hours is desirable and may be required to more adequately manage the recreation area.
The volunteer agrees to perform the duties as described and as scheduled. The Corps of Engineers will identify the assigned campsite with a sign indicating the camp host. Volunteers shall furnish their own transportation and camping equipment. Members of a volunteer’s immediate family are welcome to accompany him or her while working under the volunteer agreement. HOUSING & AMENITIES Type: Trailer/RV Pads Description: Benefits: This volunteer position offers an opportunity to meet new people and interact with the public, develop additional training and skills, and to work in a natural environment. Volunteers will also be provided with a free campsite with full hookups and access to a washer and dryer. Full privileges and use of the Corps of Engineers campsite (the volunteer’s campsite) are available without charge to the immediate family. Only one camping unit (i.e. motor home or travel trailer) may be placed on the site.
