Fort Monroe National Monument is seeking a new personality to become our mascot, Sergeant Patches! The Sgt. is based on a historical dog that lived and served at the fort during World War II and was trained to pull the lanyard on one of the 12-inch disappearing guns.
Mascot duties include:
Showing up on time for events and programs utilizing the mascot
Taking pictures with visitors and guests as requested
Being friendly, approachable, and animated while in costume
Not talking to visitors while in costume
Maintain suit appropriately after each use
Record and submit volunteer hours to site supervisor
Qualifications and Requirements:
Attend occasional volunteer meetings to stay current with site events and programs
Good physical condition
Height of 5'8" - 6'2"
Be able to wear the costume and walk for extended periods of time
Note: the costume does get hot, but has a fan in the head and ice packs to assist with this
Prior mascot experience is encouraged
New mascots are welcome; time will be allotted to get accustomed to costume and training will be provided
Good attitude and willingness to have fun with it!
