Great Sand Dunes is seeking a friendly, motivated person to supplement our visitor services program and special projects for the Fall and Winter seasons (October 28th, 2018, to March 31, 2019).
A typical 8 hours day may include 4-6 hours of visitor desk assistance. Visitor center operations include: maintaining visitor center operations and exhibits, as well as interpretive handout supplies. Volunteers will be engaged in a variety of special projects that include formal and informal interpretation. Projects can also include the editing of park publications any other special projects will be assigned as they come available. Additional duties include, processing and safeguarding lost and found items in accordance with park policies, giving and receiving park and local community information, education of visitors, reporting accidents, missing persons, visitor complaints, and other law enforcement, safety, and maintenance issues to appropriate staff. These duties often require work under high and low temperatures, high winds, blowing sand, intense sun. The park elevation is 8200'.
Enjoy amazing scenery in beautiful Colorado. Activities in the surrounding area include: hiking, camping, skiing, hot springs, wildlife viewing, stargazing, and outstanding solitude. Alamosa is nearby (34 miles) with access to groceries, shopping, health clinics, movie theaters, bowling alleys, restaurants, and Adams State University.
The park will issue shirts, jackets, and baseball caps to be returned at the end of the season. Due to remoteness, reliable personal transportation and a valid driver's license are required. Laundry facilities are available at the park. Park housing may be available and paid for by the park, and meal reimbersments may be available.
