The Eldorado National Forest, Pacific Ranger District, is looking for an outgoing individual to volunteer at Cleveland Corral Information kiosk. The kiosk is conveniently located off Ice House Road, 2 miles north of Highway 50 in Pollock Pines, California. Complete with an information kiosk, picnic day-use area, restrooms and a water system – this area provides many comforts. Its close proximity to the highway and Crystal Basin Recreation Area enable travelers to stop in for directions, utilize the facilities, and get information about the Crystal Basin. With many lakes, developed campgrounds, and several miles of National Forest lands, the Crystal Basin draws a high number of visitors each year.
If you are personable, friendly, and like talking with people, we would love to hear from you! Previous customer service or information station experience is desired but is not a requirement. Our ideal candidate will be a team player, able to deal effectively with stressful situations, and carry themselves with a professional and courteous demeanor at all times.
Information Kiosk Attendant Duties:
Enthusiastically answer questions, greet visitors, and assist travelers with directions
Keep a record of visitor use.
Issue and explain campfire permits.
Monitor use/securing of dumpster, ensuring proper use by visitors.
Ensure restrooms and grounds are clean and presentable each day – daily cleaning of restroom facilities (1 building with 4 restrooms) are required.
Recognize and report issues with water system or other maintenance issues if they occur.
Maintain a positive attitude and always represent the Forest Service professionally.
Show a presence of authority and report law enforcement issues to the proper authorities and/or agency staff.
After receiving training, effectively communicate with other agency personnel and Dispatch, utilizing Forest Service issued hand-held and or base-station radios as well as a landline telephone
After receiving training, properly utilize Forest Service-provided tools and supplies to perform job duties.
A 5-day work week required; weekend service is mandatory for this position.
Adhere to guidelines and policies agreed to in individual Volunteer Agreement contract.
A travel trailer on site and trailer pad/hookups will be provided by the Forest Service to volunteer for the duration of the assignment. Hookups include: propane, electricity, water and septic.
Length of position typically extends from the week prior to 4th of July thru Labor Day.
Numerous recreation opportunities are available a short drive away from Cleveland Corral – hiking, biking, motorized and non-motorized boating (on numerous local lakes), fishing, and Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) usage on designated roads and trails in the Crystal Basin Recreation Area.
Also nearby are Wrights Lake, trails leading to Desolation Wilderness and historical lookouts such as Big Hill, Robbs Hut and Bunker Hill.
Cellular coverage on major networks is available in this area.
A reimbursement not to exceed $240/week ($48/day @5 days/week) is available for meals and incidentals.
City of Pollock Pines (approx. 8 mi.) and Placerville (approx. 22 mi.). All services (gas, groceries, and auto shop) are available in these locations.
