San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park docents share their unique maritime knowledge with park visitors through educational programs and informal contacts.
All Active Maritime Volunteers MUST have a signed and dated 301-A Volunteer Agreement form/ Application on file in the volunteer office before any volunteer service of any type can be provided to the park or program.
This position advertisement is open only to US Residents & the Territories thereof.
Docent work indoors as well as outdoors, landside serving at the park’s visitor center, maritime museum, Hyde Street Pier and other associated park contact stations as well as over the water providing 30-minute walking tours and interpretive services aboard the park’s small fleet of National Historic Landmark Ships (NHLS) found moored alongside historic Hyde Street Pier located at the far west-end of world famous Fisherman’s Wharf.
Duties may also include interacting with the general public answering a variety of questions about such subjects as Pacific Coast maritime history, San Francisco & surrounding geographic areas, answering telephones and take school group reservations including subjects of interest or opportunities within the National Park Service.
Time Commitment: There is a requested minimal time commitment of 8 hours per/ month, however with challenging personal schedules of today, a more conducive schedule may be arranged which proves both advantageous to the park as well as better serving one’s personal obligations.
